Empower A Student

Empower A Student Program, a project led by Board Director Rhonda Rose Drecksler, offers free quality tutoring to foster children in Miami-Dade County who want to improve themselves. The goals are to emphasize the control of their future, increase their self-confidence, and encourage a love of learning as education is the critical component to empower foster children to ultimately become productive adults in their future. Each child in foster care is matched with a volunteer who works with him/her for one hour a week for the entire school year.

Interested in volunteering? All of tutors must complete an application , interview, and have a background clearance through DCF. Volunteer tutors act not only as a supplementary scholastic resource, but also as a mentor. Each tutor is assigned a student(s) for the year and goes to the student to deliver their services after school, during the week, at a time mutually agreed upon with the parent/guardian of the youth. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer tutor, please complete the application  and send it back to EmpowerAStudent@BeAVoice.org.

If you are a case worker who has a child struggling in school, please complete the referral form, and email it to EmpowerAStudent@BeAVoice.org.

For any additional information please contact the Recruiter and Volunteer Coordinator, Cristina Garcia at EmpowerAStudent@BeAVoice.org.
