Local Business And Community Leaders Compete In Soccer Tournament To Benefit Voices For Children Foundation
Fourth Be A Voice Soccer Cup event raises $15,500
MIAMI – Sept. 23, 2015 –More than 100 Voices For Children supporters put on their soccer cleats and competed in Voices For Children Foundation’s fourth Be A Voice Soccer Cup at Futbox Futsal Center in Doral, Fla., on September 20. The event, sponsored by Mercantil Commercebank, raised $15,500 to support Miami-Dade County’s abused, neglected and abandoned children.
Eight teams from Brickell City Centre, Educate Tomorrow, EFG Capital, Mercantil Commercebank, Synergy Capital Group and Univision participated. The Univision team took home first place.
“We are deeply moved by seeing the community come together in good sportsmanship to support Voices For Children, and we are grateful to everyone who participated to help raise funds for our organization and our mission to make life better for youths in Miami-Dade’s dependency system,” said Nelson F. Hincapie, president and chief executive officer of Voices For Children.
Currently, there are more than 3,650 children in Miami-Dade County’s foster care system as a result of abuse, abandonment or neglect. Law requires that these children be appointed Guardian ad Litem representatives to advocate on their behalf while they maneuver through the foster system. Yet, fewer than 1,245 of these children actually have Guardians ad Litem. Voices For Children Foundation works to secure additional funding to help close that gap of representation as well as to support the children’s health, educational and social needs.
“Mercantil Commercebank is thrilled to again support Voices For Children as the presenting sponsor of Be A Voice Soccer Cup and help make a positive difference in the lives of children in need,” said Mariola Triana Sanchez, general counsel for Mercantil Commercebank and member of the Voices For Children Foundation’s board of directors.
About Voices For Children Foundation
Voices For Children Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises money to help ensure that abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Miami-Dade County each have a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem and that financial assistance and other resources are available for their health, educational, and social needs. Guardians ad Litem are trained, court-appointed adults who serve as their representative voices in dependency court proceedings. Currently, more than 3,650 children are in Miami-Dade County’s Foster Care system and 1,245 children are unrepresented by Guardians ad Litem. For more information, please visit www.BeAVoice.org.
