Veronica

Veronica* arrived at Circle F Dude Ranch feeling nervous about attending her very first camping trip, but it didn’t take long for that feeling to change. She was welcomed by a caring community of peers, chaperones, and our Programs Director, Sonia, who also serves as her dedicated advocate. From the very beginning, Sonia made sure Veronica felt supported, safe, and included.

Over the course of the weekend, Veronica embraced a world of new experiences: meeting and petting horses, building a cardboard boat with her team, making s’mores by the fire, going on a night hike, climbing the rock wall, and even canoeing across the lake. Each moment helped her build confidence and discover her sense of adventure.

Most importantly, Veronica continues to form a meaningful bond with Sonia, who encouraged her every step of the way. With that support, Veronica also deepened connections with her peers, feeling truly seen, valued, and uplifted.

Beyond this special weekend, there has been meaningful progress in Veronica’s journey. In December, we were able to help reunite Veronica and her sister, Isabella*, placing them together in the care of their aunt, an important step toward stability and healing. To help support the family, our team is providing ongoing assistance through our Kinship Navigator program, including guidance with SNAP applications. We also helped enroll Isabella in daycare, ensuring she has access to early learning and care.

What began as a nerve-wracking experience became an empowering weekend filled with joy, courage, and connection. It’s a powerful reminder of what’s possible when young people are surrounded by consistent, caring support.

Voices For Children continues to create transformative experiences for youth in foster care, ensuring every child has a village behind them, cheering them on as they grow.
