Leading With Purpose: Blain Heckaman’s Lasting Impact
After more than four decades with Kaufman Rossin — including 14 years as CEO — Blain Heckaman is preparing to retire, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of leadership, mentorship, and community impact. Throughout his career, Blain has remained deeply committed not only to helping clients grow their businesses and achieve their financial goals, but also to strengthening the South Florida community through philanthropy and service.
VFC: What initially drew you to join the board of Voices For Children?
Blain: I’m a big believer in giving back to the community and helping those who cannot help themselves, especially our youth. The focus of Voices for Children on serving the abused, abandoned and neglected children in our community really resonated with me. That’s why I decided to get involved in the organization more than 20 years ago, eventually became chairperson, and am still a board member today.
VFC: What aspect of Voices For Children's mission resonates most with you?
Blain: Voices For Children raises funds to provide direct support for advocacy, basic needs, and experiences for children and youth experiencing foster care throughout our community. This life-changing organization helps at-risk kids significantly improve their quality of life. Every child deserves someone who will fight for them.
VFC: In your experience, what is the most significant contribution a board member can make to the organization?
Blain: A board member can lend a voice by donating, raising funds from others, volunteering, or starting a conversation in the community to provide awareness about the needs of children in foster care.
VFC: Describe a specific accomplishment or project you're proud of during your time on the board.
Blain: There are many accomplishments to be proud of and the most recent is watching Voices for Children pivot from primarily providing funds to support the Guardian Ad Litem state-run program to focus on the needs and life experiences of the youth in the Foster Care system. Voices is making a difference in the lives of children in Foster Care!
VFC: What are your hopes and aspirations for the future of Voices For Children?
Blain: As AI and other advanced technology become more accessible to non-profit leaders, I hope it will help them optimize resource allocation, enhance impact assessment, and streamline administration so that the organization can have an even greater impact in the communities it serves.
VFC: What advice would you give to someone considering joining the board?
Blain: Voices for Children is a fantastic organization and joining will be well worth your time. The impact that this organization has on children’s lives is truly transformative.
VFC: What are you passionate about outside of your work with Voices For Children?
Blain: I’m passionate about doing the right thing, whether that is standing up for those who don’t have a voice or building more inclusive environments where everyone can thrive. Making our community better and stronger benefits everyone.
