40 Years of Impact
Join us in celebrating 40 years of hope and healing for child experiencing foster care throughout Miami-Dade!
This year marks an incredible milestone for Voices For Children – 40 years of unwavering commitment to providing a brighter future for children in foster care. Since our founding in 1984 by visionary leaders including Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Joni Goodman, Rita Switchkov, Cindy Lerner, and Berta Blecke, we've transformed countless lives through our four focus areas:
Basic Needs
Our community faces unprecedented challenges. Children are struggling in school while families grapple with rising costs. For children in foster care, these pressures can lead to destabilizing disruptions in their lives. Voices For Children is a lifeline, providing essential support like food, clothing, and shoes. We also assist families with critical needs, such as rental and utility assistance, and furniture to create stable home environments. Our goal is to ensure these children have the foundation they need to thrive.
Dignity Items & Normalcy
Every child in foster care deserves to feel safe, valued, and supported. At Voices For Children, we’re committed to providing young people with the tools they need to thrive. Our Comfort Closet, located in our downtown Miami office, offers essential items that promote a sense of normalcy. From everyday necessities (like hygiene products and bedding) to fun and celebratory supplies (like games and sporting equipment), we empower children and youth to build self-esteem and resilience. We're here for them throughout their foster care journey and beyond, offering ongoing support as they navigate life’s challenges.
Experiences
Childhood experiences shape us into the adults we become. At Voices for Children, we believe in the power of memories to inspire and transform young lives. We create opportunities for children to experience the world, building confidence and fostering a sense of wonder. From exciting adventures to educational and transformative outings (like our annual Blue Missions trip), our experiential learning opportunities are designed to equip children with essential life skills while providing a sense of normalcy and hope for the future.
Advocacy
Voices For Children is proud to support the Miami-Dade Guardian ad Litem Office with critical funding. Guardian ad Litem volunteers and staff are dedicated advocates, serving as the unwavering voice for children in foster care. They ensure these children's rights, needs, and the pursuit of a permanent home are prioritized. This crucial investment, which funds over 50% of their staff, enables the office to represent children in the foster care system, ensuring their physical, emotional, and social well-being is protected.
