Back-to-School Event Empowers Children in Foster Care in Miami

Back-to-school season can be overwhelming for many families, but for children and youth in foster care, it can be especially challenging. Voices For Children organized a back-to-school event to ensure youth in foster care start the school year with confidence. With support from donors, volunteers, and sponsors, 230 children received uniforms, school supplies, laptops, and gift cards. This initiative demonstrates how community engagement efforts can amplify impact and create meaningful experiences for children.

 

On August 5 at Old Navy, Shoppes at Dadeland, and on August 6 at Macy’s in Aventura Mall, children and families gathered for a truly unforgettable event. Each child received brand-new uniforms and backpacks filled with school supplies, helping them feel prepared and excited for the classroom. Laptops, provided by AT&T, and age-appropriate books, courtesy of KPMG, ensured students had the tools needed to thrive academically.

The excitement in the children’s eyes was contagious, and caregivers shared relief knowing their youth had everything to start the school year strong. Volunteers, Donors, Staff, Board Members, Community Members, Sponsors, and Be A Voice members played a crucial role, offering hands-on support and encouragement. Their dedication ensured that each child felt celebrated, valued, and empowered.

Community partners like Turnberry, Lennar, Miami Hype, and the Barnes family helped make the event possible, showing that collaboration is key to providing stability for foster care children in Miami. From backpacks to school supplies, every detail was thoughtfully planned to meet the needs of youth in foster care. Children received Publix gift cards, Famous Footwear cards, and books to spark curiosity and joy. Each laptop gifted allowed students to access learning opportunities at home, supporting long-term educational growth.
