What You Need to Know About National Adoption Day

By December 9, 2015 No Comments

Every year, the Saturday before Thanksgiving marks an even more poignant reason to give thanks: National Adoption Day. Started in 2000, the day has helped approximately 54,500 children move from foster care to permanent homes. It’s a remarkable feat when you consider the staggering statistics, stipulating that more than 100,000 children in the United States are in foster care waiting to be adopted by a family. Sadly, 23,000 children turn 18 years old without ever being adopted. However, for the last 25 years, organizations, policymakers, practitioners and advocates to finalize adoptions have successfully made it their mission to help the thousands of children in need of adoption. As advocates for children in the dependency system, Voices For Children supports this cause. We urge you to visit nationaladoptionday.org to find out more about this important initiative. And to learn about becoming a Guardian ad Litem, volunteers dedicated to advocating and ensuring permanency for children in the foster care program, visit guardianadlitem.org.
