Non-Profit to Dress Over 2,000 Unprivileged Miami-Dade Students
MIAMI, FL (August, 2015)– Fashion and philanthropy will join forces once again as the Style Saves team gears up to host its 5th Annual Back-to-School In-Style event. On August 22nd and 23rd from Noon to 5 pm at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County, located at 1300 Biscayne Blvd. Miami, FL 33132, the non-profit will host upwards of 2,000 children for a back-to-school styling bonanza. After recently meeting the fundraising goal set for the 5th Annual Miami Swim Week Fashion Show Fundraiser Style Saves Swim, the team looks forward to providing as many children as possible with brand new outfits for the new school year.
Students attending Miami-Dade County Public Schools who are served by organizations Voices For Children Foundation & The Guardian ad Litem Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Communities In Schools, Irie Foundation, Mentor Network, The Lotus House, Safe Space, Inn Transition, The Lodge, New Life, and Salvation Army will “shop” back-to-school looks set up in a department store style atmosphere while enjoying a day of makeovers, styling and interactive activities. Kids will enjoy haircuts by Junior & Hatter Salon, face painting courtesy of Glam Squad, a photo booth, tie-dying stations and mini yoga classes. Students will nibble on treats from the Stella’s Sweet Shoppe, Paleo Bake House, Macondo, and bites by Pueblito Viejo— all washed down with beverages from Coca-Cola, Perrier, Jugo Fresh and Vita Coco. Yoobi will be also be on hand to provide children with complimentary school supplies.
With funding from The Miami Foundation, Voices For Children Foundation and Plaza Construction, Style Saves was able to leverage additional partnerships with brands in the fashion, art and hospitality realms in an effort to provide students with stylish outfits to begin their school year with. The premise is to inspire self-esteem through clothes and instill confidence in students both socially and in their academic careers.
The Arsht Center serves as the event’s location sponsor for the second year in a row. In-kind donations for the this year’s back-to-school event include over 500 units of boys clothing from Perry Ellis, over $10,000 worth of clothing from Cotton, and additional items from brands like Juntos, Trina Turk, Converse, Frankie, Papi, Laceclips and Superga.
“With the help of a philanthropic power team, many generous donations from the community and the backing from these amazing designers, the Style Saves organization has been able to nearly double our efforts and provide for 2,000 kids this year,” says Russell. “It makes all of us proud to see the program be so well-received by these brands and by our city. We’ve been able to continue to grow, not only on a local level, but now on a national level too.”
