Leadership in Action: Our Youth Take on Disney
Nineteen youth from our High School and Leadership Team cohorts recently experienced a weekend of growth, challenge, and inspiration at the Disney Youth Leadership Program at Walt Disney World.
What began as a fun trip quickly became something much more: an opportunity to build confidence, strengthen teamwork, and develop the kind of leadership skills that will serve them for a lifetime.
Learning to Lead Like a CEO
Throughout the program, our youth explored core leadership principles including teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. One of the most impactful activities challenged them to “think like a CEO.”
They were asked to analyze real-world scenarios, make strategic decisions, and collaborate under pressure, skills that mirror what top executives use every day. Watching them step into leadership roles, share ideas, and support one another was a powerful reminder of their potential.
Behind the Magic
A backstage tour gave students a rare look at how Disney operates behind the scenes — revealing the planning, coordination, and leadership required to create seamless guest experiences. It was an eye-opening opportunity to see how vision, structure, and teamwork come together at one of the world’s most recognized organizations.
Of course, the weekend also included time to celebrate their hard work and enjoy the parks. Students explored Disney's Hollywood Studios and EPCOT, building memories alongside friendships that continue to grow stronger with each shared experience
Rising to the Challenge
The second day brought gloomy skies and steady rain. Spirits dipped, and some participants hesitated to continue the outdoor programming. But in a true display of leadership, members of the Leadership Team cohort and two students from the High School cohort stepped up.
They encouraged their peers, modeled resilience, and made the decision not to lose the opportunity because of circumstances beyond their control. Their determination shifted the energy of the group and reminded everyone that leadership isn’t just about titles... it’s about action.
A Weekend That Ended in Teamwork
The weekend culminated in a high-energy scavenger hunt that pushed students to collaborate, strategize, and communicate effectively. By the end, what started as individual challenges became collective victories.
Our youth left Disney that weekend with stronger bonds, sharper leadership skills, and a deeper belief in what they are capable of achieving.
Creating Opportunities That Shape Futures
At Voices For Children, we believe positive experiences like this are transformational. When youth are given opportunities to lead, explore, and challenge themselves in new environments, they begin to see their own potential more clearly.
And that is where real magic happens.
