Voices For Children Foundation To Help 300 Miami-Dade County Foster Children Prepare For The New School Year

Nonprofit joins Old Navy and Galleria Farms to donate uniforms, supplies

MIAMI – July 20, 2015 – Voices For Children Foundation, a Miami non-profit organization working to make life better for children in foster care, will serve as host to its fifth-annual “Back to School” event to provide about 300 children in the Miami-Dade County foster care system with the uniforms and supplies they need for the new school year.

Foster children between three years and 18 years of age who are currently in the dependency system and represented by the 11th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program will pick up the supplies from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, at Old Navy, 7220 North Kendall Drive, Miami, FL 33156. The event is not open to the public, but members of the news media may attend upon request.

The event is made possible thanks to donations from Old Navy and the Micky and Madeleine Arison Family Foundation. Students will receive up to $100 to select and buy new school uniforms at partner Old Navy at the Shoppes at Dadeland, which is providing a special discount for the occasion. Every child also will receive a backpack, courtesy of Galleria Farms.

“We are thrilled to be able to provide these children with the school clothing and supplies they need, as we have seen in our experience that in addition to getting them ready for school, these items go a long way in helping them feel more confident and excited about starting a new school year,” said Nelson F. Hincapie, president and CEO of Voices For Children Foundation. “We are extremely grateful to our community partners for enabling Voices for Children to host this event for a fifth-consecutive year.”
